MP3 Audio Files:

These audio files should open up and play on your computer, or you can also download them to any portable device.  I know each of you enjoy different styles of music and I will continue to add more variety.  Make sure you listen to each file, because the description may not exactly describe the music, then you can begin to pick your favorites for practice purposes.

The file names start with “CP” to indicate they are chord progressions, then the specific key is indicated so you will know which string to play if you want to practice your single-string improv skills.  The number in parentheses is simply the number in that series, and then the tempo is shown simply for additional reference.  The chords are also listed in this table if you want to practice playing rhythm guitar.

I created the files using my Band-in-a-Box software program. Each audio file will loop 10 times before ending, and they each run about 2 and a half minutes in length.

Below is a refresher on the details:

The single-string improv method

A major scale consists of notes on the following frets:

0 – 2 – 4 – 5 – 7 – 9 – 11 – 12

The string you play must be the same as the key of the song (e.g. for the key of E, play the 1st string). For reference, the names of the strings are as follows:

1(E), 2(B), 3(G), 4(D), 5(A), 6(E)

Here is a list of some gospel “standards” that you may be interested in learning to play.  I can provide you with a chord sheet in the various keys shown, or I can create a new sheet if you are interested in playing a different key.  Some of these songs we even have a recording you can listen to and play along with.  I arranged the chords especially for guitar accompaniment, and can teach you some of the specific techniques I use for each song in order to expand your “skills toolbox”.  🙂
